研究:創意不一定購大錢

【大紀元11月23日訊】(大紀元記者宗揚編譯)近期發佈的一項調查報告顯示,有些公司投入了大筆的研發經費卻得不到高績效,而有些公司則可藉由研發大發利巿。 在創意盛行的年代裡,許多人可能以為研發費用持續攀高是個常態。的確,美國知名的博思管理顧問公司(Booz-Allen & Hamilton)在本月甫發表的調查報告中,就指出了2005年全球研發支出排名前一千大的企業,總研發經費共4,070億美元,較2004年高出200億美元。

該研究以銷售收入、銷貨毛利、營業毛利淨利、過往研發費用支出、股票市值及股東報酬率等七項財務指標,來檢驗2005年研發支出排名前一千大的企業。並交叉比較了不同的產業及區域,試圖從中找到產業研發的趨勢與型態。

結果竟得到了一項出人意料的結論:研發經費多雖然可創造更多專利,但專利數與公司的獲利能力並無太大關連。例如研發經費居全球之冠的美國福特汽車(Ford Motor),雖然砸下了近800億的研發經費,但卻沒有帶來預期的效果。可見,砸大錢不見得買得了好的創意。

結果也發現了,美、日、歐盟以外,特別是中國和印度的企業,研發支出有上升的趨勢。過去,許多公司為降低營運成本而將研發中心外移,現在的企業也為建構全球創新網,將研發中心移往快速發展的海外市場。而且,雖全球研發經費不斷攀高,但其佔總體銷貨收入的比重卻不斷降低。其主要原因在於規模所產生的經濟效益,其次乃因研發中心多已移往低成本國家,再來則是因創新研發的商品化程度提高所致。

研發經費前幾名的企業中,唯獨日本豐田汽車(Toyota)被列為「創新效率高」的公司。有94家公司在2000至05年間,研發支出占銷售總額低於同業平均,但營業績效卻持續高於同業。凱樂格食品(Kellogg)、蘋果電腦(Apple)、波士頓科學醫療設備製造商(Boston Scientific)、印度塔塔汽車(Tata Motors)、迪奧(Christine Dior)、日本神戶鋼鐵(Kobe Steel)等,都被列為以低研發經費比率創造高績效的公司。

不過,研究並未找出令企業得以低比率研發經費,創造高於同業近2到3倍業績的最佳營運模式。因為這些佼佼者使用的模式都不盡相同。例如美國百得生產機具供應商(Black & Decker),並未設有集中的研發中心,所有產品的研發,都由個別部門自行開發。相反地,全球記憶體大廠晟碟(SanDisk)的產品研發,皆仰賴幾位高階行政主管每兩週定期的聚會。另外,部分公司的研發效率必須歸因於其固有的特殊才能,例如Google公司是以其閃電般速度形成新點子聞名,日本豐田汽車以產品及製程開發效率勝出,蘋果電腦則是精準掌握了消費者需求。

不過,這項研究卻發現了高效率研發企業普遍具有四個共通的特質:創意形成模式、研發產品的挑選、產品開發能力、商品化進程的把握。最關鍵的步驟在於如何將創意形成真正能銷售的商品。其次,成功的公司必定把研發與客戶的需求連結在一起。

這項報告雖然證明了至少有些公司找到了增進研發效率的方法,但也顯示並沒有所謂「最佳的組織架構」;另一方面,企業將研發中心移往低成本國家的做法,究竟會與其核心客戶漸行漸遠,還是能藉此安排,更有利於其明瞭及接近新的客戶群。這些都是截至目前為止,仍無人能解的商業程式密碼。

看好棉花、咖啡、大豆

羅傑斯認為,目前這幾種農產品原物料的價格仍處於低檔,不過這種情況即將改變。他的分析是,受到石油價格高漲的影響,棉花將會取代合成纖維。在咖啡產銷方面,迄今為止咖啡種植區都沒有新增,而老舊的種植區將陸續衰退,這種基本面將刺激咖啡價格大漲。

同時由於許多國家為了使用乙醇替代石油,造成大量土地轉為種植玉米,相對的排擠了大豆的種植面積,這將使大豆因供應減少,而帶動其未來價格上揚,在過去12個月中,大豆價格已上漲8%。
